Indentures, 1695-1715.

Nine manuscripts, on vellum, of legal documents concerning property leases in London, and belonging to either Alexander Pope, father of the poet Alexander Pope, or Charles Rackett, the poet's brother-in-law. The property includes White Hill House and Little Corner Fields in Binfield, Berkshire. Five of the documents are signed by Alexander Pope, senior. One, dated 1715 and concerning the transfer of Pope's house, White Hill House, is also signed by his son, the poet; another signed by Alexander Pope, senior, is a conveyance in trust for his son dated 1700.

Alexander Pope (1646-1717), the father of the poet Alexander Pope, was a linen merchant in Plough Court, Lombard Street, London, after having been an apprentice in Flanders. A convert to the Catholic faith, he moved his family from London to Binfield, Berkshire, in response to anti-Catholic legislature in Parliament.
